Why is the Turmstr. 1 called \"Hilton\"?<\/pre>\n
The nickname of the residence hall Turmstr. 1 is \u201cHilton\u201d. However, the dormitory is not directly related to the well-known hotel chain, but the nickname has the following background: In the past, Aachen\u2019s student dormitories did not have showers in the house and showers were taken at the university sports center on the K\u00f6nigsh\u00fcgel. Our dormitory was the first one to get showers at that time, in the basement, where the laundry room is now. Nevertheless it is lucky that times have changed again and now every apartment has a shower!<\/p>\n
Why are we an association?<\/pre>\n
Within our dormitory there is the association Turmstra\u00dfe 1 e. V., which manages the common rooms (bar, workshop, fitness room) and also provides the internet for the dormitory. Therefore, all residents who want to use any of these facilities must be members of this association. The association is structured in such a way that the association board consists of the two house speakers and the treasurers of the house, bar and network cashier. The whole work in the dormitory is honorary, support in the different AGs is always absolutely welcome!<\/p>\n
What costs will you incur?<\/pre>\n
In spite of the voluntary self-administration, however, costs are incurred. For example for the payment of insurance costs, the maintenance and equipment of the workshop and the fitness room or for the common winter and summer parties, to which all members of the association are always cordially invited.<\/p>\n
Therefore we have the following cost system to cover our costs:<\/p>\n
one-time 10 \u20ac (one-time and obligatory)
monthly 2 \u20ac (obligatory house contribution)
monthly 4 \u20ac (for internet access, optional)<\/p>\n
How do I become a member?<\/pre>\n
To become a member of the association you need to download a membership application form from our administration website, fill it out and have it signed by a member of the board. In order to access the administration website you must have already received an email with your access data. If this is not the case, please check your spam folder and send an e-mail to \u201cnetwork@hilton.rwth-aachen.de\u201d. In order for your membership application to be signed by a member of the board, it must be checked against your identity card and rental contract! This works especially well for the monthly new move-in bar, but alternatively you can also check if a board member is in the house at another time, for this purpose a list of board members with room numbers is posted in the lobby.<\/p>\n
Once you have submitted your membership application to a board member and he or she has entered your membership in the system, you can log in again to the administration website and there you can see all the dormitory internal information about payment, social services, etc. and register for the New Enrollee Bar.<\/p>\n
The payment system works like a prepaid system, in which you transfer the amount due or more to the association, which is then linked to your username and from which the appropriate amount is deducted each month. This means that you can also transfer money in advance for several months, as this will be noted on a kind of personal \u201chouse account\u201d. This means that your \u201chouse account\u201d must always be covered, because this is not a direct debit system where the money is collected from your private account. The fees listed above must be paid into the association’s account by the first of each month so that the internet access is not blocked. For the first month there is a grace period of ten days after joining the association. After that, unfortunately, no exceptions can be made.<\/span><\/p>\n
What is the Neueinziehbar?<\/pre>\n
Every 1st Wednesday of the month, the new residents bar takes place, it always starts at 21:00 in the lobby of our dormitory. At the New Resident Bar, the AGs of the dormitory introduce themselves and you have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other new residents, but also with older members. This is a mandatory event for new residents and must be attended during the first three months. If this does not happen, the internet access will be turned off until after the participation in a newcomer bar.<\/p>\n
What are AG's and social services?<\/pre>\n
The association is structured in such a way that every member is involved in the common life in some way. This is possible by being permanently active in a working group (occupancy committee, network working group, workshop working group, washroom working group, fitness working group or in the bar working group) or by doing one social service per semester. In the semester of moving in, visiting the new residents\u2019 bar counts as social service. In the following semesters it can be the help with a cleaning action of one of the above mentioned associations, or for example a contribution in form of a salad\/cake to the annual winter or summer party.<\/p>\n

Symposium<\/pre>\n
Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, our dormitory bar is open with ever-changing mottoes (motto requests are welcome). The symposium shines especially with its student-friendly prices. A tear-off card costs 5 \u20ac and includes six tear-offs. A beer, for example, costs one demolition. The Bar-AG is always happy to welcome customers from the dormitory, so drop by!<\/p>\n
